Saying Goodbye...

A few weeks ago Karl and I stood in our living room on a sunday afternoon and listened to a few things:
  • someone's pet bird screeching
  • a child banging on a drumset in one of the upstairs apartments
  • two grown men singing kareoke (with amplification) in the apartment above us
  • doors slamming as three children ran back and forth between apartments

It was complete and utter chaos.  We looked at eachother and knew what had been cooking for a while was now about to boil over.  We knew it was time to let it go and move.

When we first chose this apartment building two years ago, there was one other couple here besides us.  The rest of the apartments had single women in their 30's or old men.  It was peaceful, clean and quiet.  I don't know if it is because of the economy or what but there are now 3 families living in our building.  A one bedroom apartment has 5 people living in it.  Cigarette butts are thrown everywhere, some nasty guy smokes weed all the time.  Yuck.  The families are always shouting and slamming.  It's just not the quiet place it once was.

So we have found a new place that is tucked away in a nice neighborhood and is full of snowbirds.  Perfect for people like us who value peace and quiet.  It's on the top floor and it even has several upgrades that our old, vintage building now does not have!  (Think dishwasher, full size fridge, oven and sink...living large I tell ya!)

We are excited to begin a new adventure, but pretty sad to leave the place we first called home.  So what else could be more appropriate than a little photo montage to bid our little home a fond farewell?

Signing the lease on our first place!  Exciting and scary!  I didn't even have a job at this point...

home from our wedding reception

All decked out for Christmas 2010!  We had one tree inside and another one outside on our porch...both fully decorated.  We may have gone a little overboard our first year ;)

Christmas morning 2010...my Grandma's Christmas Brunch Casserole and cinnamon rolls. YUM!

We were brave enough to host a surprise party for my mom's birthday in 2011!
It was a hit!

A special treat Karl prepared for my 23rd birthday :)

Made my Grandma's famous lemon cake!

Laying around, being goofy :)

We learned a couple of songs together

I made curtains for our kitchen

Bought these awesome chairs at a thrift store

And made my first big furniture purchase...this beautiul desk!

There are so many memories in this place, our first "home", that don't fit in a picture.  We learned how to be married, how to love deeper and truer, how to cook, and how to live in very close quarters after barely living in the same town during our dating years.  This place means so much to us and it is so sad to leave, but we know there will be so many new adventures in the next place!  I think we will even paint some in our new apartment, which is something we never did in this one.

We are looking forward to hosting Easter dinner for our families at our place next month before we leave.  I'm really looking forward to cooking and decorating for it :) It will be a great way to wrap up the last two years.  After that we begin the painful process of moving all of our junk.  But what better way to "spring clean" than to donate/trash or atleast dust all your stuff?  Excellent timing. :)

Grateful for the time here, looking forward to the years ahead.
